I love an epic trip to the grocery store as much as the next foodie, but there's something pretty unique about a day at the farmer's market. There's a level of engagement and interaction that you get from the merchants that really creates a story + personality behind your ingredients. It's also a great opportunity to learn more about your community.
One of the things that I loved about living in Washington D.C. was spending afternoons at Eastern Market. Everyone from every walk of life could be found there- merchants, artists, suits, tourist, college kids, neighborhood veterans, bouncing babes, and book worms. There's something so lively and engaging about it...and it's a great way to shop smart and support local growers. So when we were deciding where we were moving to, one thing that sold me on St. Louis was its local market in Soulard!

Being an omnivore who fell in love with a pescetarian, creativity has been the key to keeping things interesting when it comes to food. One thing I consistently love to work with when preparing fish is fresh herbs! They add a pop of color and freshness to anything, so it keeps things from getting boring.

Spice is also essential to keeping things, well, spicy! It can shift the whole look, feel, and taste of your dish. While we all have our go-to flavors, don't be afraid to mix it up every once and a while, especially if you're on a new diet! Farmers' markets can be a great source for new blends and flavors that you may not otherwise go for when you're doing your usual grocery run.
